Trumpeter 1/48 Hawker Sea Fury FB.11 - by Ross Whitaker - Damascus, OR
Hawker Sea Fury FB.11, Royal Navy, HMS Theseus, 898 Squadron, 1953 Home Waters Exercise markings.
I used two 1/48th scale kits to build this model; the Falcon vacuform kit and the Trumpeter kit. The Falcon had a correctly shaped fuselage and wing fillet, and the Trumpeter offered a folded wings option. I used the Cooper Details resin set to enhance both, adding cockpit interior, external wing tanks, landing gear, prop, and canopy. I also used the Cutting Edge main gear well. The wingfold had to be partly scratch built and adjusted as it did not correctly depict the actual folding angle and detail required. The Falcon fuselage was hand scribed. All surfaces of the Trumpeter parts used had to have the rivet holes filled. The paints mainly used were Gunze Sangyo Mr. Color and Xtracolor. The special wing and fuselage markings were painted on, and decals were sourced from AeroMaster and Modeldecal. Reference material came primarily from Warpaint books for the exterior scheme, and the interior, wingfold, gear well detail info was mainly gathered from various internet sites. I got the idea from a Brett Green Hyperscale article though he didn't use the Falcon kit. This kit bash is not for the faint of heart as the two kits do not really want to go together, but I think the effort can bring an interesting model.
