Hobbycraft 1/48 Hawker Sea Fury - by Vic Scheuerman - Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada

The resin Cooper Details cockpit was assembled and sprayed Model Master Aircraft Interior Black enamel. Minor detail painting was done with acrylics, with paint chipping replicated using a Prisma Silver Pencil. The only deviation from assembly was gluing the aft bulkhead to the fuselage first. This allowed the assembled tub to be ‘popped’ in from the bottom of the assembled fuselage. The Hobby Craft kit was further improved with Cooper Details main gear bay, tires, landing gear and retraction arms. Cast metal propellers and landing gear legs came from Cutting Edge (parts originally Cooper Details). A vacuum formed AM canopy was also used.

The kit has a base of Testors Model Master Green Drab FS34086 enamel, with various panels masked and sprayed either (all Testors MM enamels); Olive Drab (ANA 613), Faded Olive Drab, Dark Earth (ANA6171) and RAF Dark Green. The base Green Drab was then misted back on to bind the colors together. Kit decals were used, but the rudder decals were too small, so the national markings were sprayed on. All of the decals and rudder were carefully wet sanded with 12,000 grit emery cloth to give them a worn and faded appearance. Paint chipping was done with a Silver Prisma pencil.
