Welcome to the BarracudaStudios Website

BarracudaStudios is dedicated to producing the very highest quality aftermarket decals for plastic model kits. Yeah, I know... everybody says that. What makes BarracudaCals different? Research. Commitment to accuracy. A really cool logo.

The focus of the BarracudaCals line is aircraft. Most eras are likely to be covered, except modern jets, such as F-15s, F-16s, F-18s, and the like. These aircraft are better covered by those much more knowledgeable on this subject. WWII is a very fertile ground for decals, and will likely make up a good percentage of releases. If an occasional non-aircraft sheet is released, we hope it will not shock and/or disappoint our fans too much. Fore warned is fore armed.

Our Commitment to Accuracy

When an aircraft is chosen to be included on a new sheet, research into the subject starts by collecting all the available information on the subject. Original photos, whenever possible, are used to create the artwork. No stock fonts are used, as air forces rarely ever used any; Exceptions being stencils and other very small markings.

Artists profiles are rarely used as reference, as there is no telling what reference the artist used (if any!), or if some details are enhanced or fudged to complete the piece. Only exceptions will be if the profiles are based on thorough research that is quoted and can be verified. A growing number of highly speculative and just plain fictional schemes have worked their way into the modeler's psyche over the last 10 years.

In an ongoing effort to come up with the most accurate interpretation of the subject being reproduced, in-depth discussions are routinely held with experts in the field. Once the discussions are over, the experts are allowed to come back inside from the field, but are asked to leave their shoes at the door. Occasionally, a best guess interpretation will have to be made. It is rare to find an aircraft whose markings are completely documented, but every attempt to make it as close to the real thing as possible is made. Interpretations and best guesses will be noted in the instructions.

Great Subjects - New and Old

New schemes are always being featured on BarracudaCals sheets, but you will also find subjects that have been done before (in some cases, many times). The reason is simple. Either they have never been done correctly before, or they not been available for years (or perhaps both), and are long overdue to reappear in the market. You would be surprised how many older decal sheets are filled with errors, misinterpretations, or are just plain poorly drawn. Many decal sheets in the past feature markings that are too big or too small, the wrong style, shape, and/or color.

Highest Quality Printing

The sheets are printed by the most respected decal printers in the business. Clear carrier film is kept to an absolute minimum, and the decals have been designed to actually fit the specified kits! Decals are thin and strong, and should be compatible with most available decal setting solutions. As with any decal sheet from any company, it is recommended that setting solutions you are going to use are tested by the modeler by applying a spare decal from the sheet to a test model to make sure they are compatible.

We Hear you

We want to hear from you. Tell us what you want. Tell us how we are doing. What are we doing right? What can we do better? There is no Ivory Tower here at BarracudaCals. We considered putting one in, but the local zoning laws prevented it! Seriously, we are open to new ideas. Let us know. No one will ever be "black listed" for an honest review or any criticism of the company or its products. Honest, fair critical review is the engine that drives improvements in quality.

We want to be your first choice for decals.

Happy modelling!

Roy
